"If you woke up this morning with more health than illness,
you are more blessed than the million who will not survive
the week.
If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back,
a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer
than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank or in your wallet, you are
among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.
If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are
truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can,
but most do not."

------ and another one in honor of Thanksgiving ------
You cannot be grateful and bitter.
You cannot be grateful and unhappy.
You cannot be grateful and without hope.
You cannot be grateful and unloving.
So by all means, be grateful.

Editor's Notes:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your holiday is filled with love, joy
and lots of great food. Please take time to count your blessings
and be thankful for all the wonderful people and things that are
a part of your life.
Some of the many things that I am thankful for are: my
wonderful, loving wife; our five dogs (who are "our children");
my loving sisters and their families; my wonderful mother; the
beautiful ranch we live on in Redwood Valley; and the many
talents that I have, which provide the wealth that I enjoy.
Using our talents to create wealth is the subject of this issue
of What's New About-the-Web. Everyone has a slightly different
idea of what constitutes wealth. Some people consider themselves
wealthy if they have a roof over their heads and food to eat.
Many people have a more idealistic notion of wealth, one that
involves lots of money and property.
One thing that I've learned is, while it is good to strive for a
better quality of life, more money and more things do not
necessarily provide more happiness. We should be thankful for,
and enjoy, what we already have. Then we can decide what else
we want or need in our lives.
Each of us has a different set of interests and talents which we
can use to create wealth. Some of us like to read, others to
write, others to talk, others to play or work hard. You can
create wealth with any of these if you set your mind to it and
put enough energy into it. If you're looking for some new way of
creating wealth, make sure your first priority is to make it
something you enjoy doing. Look for things other people are
doing, with similar talents, to create wealth in their lives.
Then learn how to duplicate their success.
Personally, I enjoy reading and writing much more than talking.
So I've looked for ways to make money by communicating with
others via the written word. This includes creating web sites,
newsletters and software. I intend to always use my talents for
the betterment of all. I believe that if this is my focus, then
I will create wealth in all that I do.

Making Money on the Internet
by Garth Catterall-Heart
Many people are interested in learning how they can make money
on the Internet. Some of the more popular ways include: selling
items on eBay or other auction sites, joining Multi-Level
Marketing (MLM) programs and selling those products, selling
other people's products through affiliate programs, and
marketing your own product(s) on your own web site.
With so many choices, it seems to me that just about anyone who
wants to, can find a way to generate at least some income on the
Internet. I've tried them all, so here's a little of what I've
learned over the years.
Internet Auctions
Selling items on auction sites is pretty straight forward. You
find, buy or already have things to sell, that other people want
to purchase. It's a good idea to do some research into the
marketability of the product, by searching for similar items,
and seeing how many of them sold, and for what price.
Starting your auction is usually a simple matter of registering
with the auction site, and providing some information about the
product. Then after several days, you find out if your product
sold and contact the buyer to determine the best way to collect
payment and ship them the product.
Many people are making hundreds and even thousands of dollars a
week doing just this. One of the advantages of selling things
this way, is that very little promotion or advertising is
required. The hardest part, is finding things to buy (or create)
at a price that is lower than what other people are willing to
pay for them.
Multi-Level Marketing
MLM Programs abound on the Internet. It used to be that you had
to do a lot of personal calling, both on the phone and face to
face, to generate interest in your program. In this new
electronic age, you contact most people via email or through a
web site, and very little personal contact is required. Of
course, the more personal contacting you decide to do, the
better your chances of success.
The hardest part of making money with MLMs, is finding one that
you really can get enthusiastic about, and then sticking with
it. There will be many other programs that will distract you.
Promoting more than one or maybe two at a time is tricky
business. Believe me, I've tried working too many of these
programs at the same time. Because my efforts were so unfocused,
none of them did very well.
There are people making good money with MLMs though. You just
need to keep working at it and expect your business to build
slowly. There are no MLMs that pay very well at the beginning.
They all require months of hard work. The long term payoffs can
be quite rewarding though.
Affiliations
Affiliate programs seem to be everywhere on the Internet too.
Everybody wants to sign you up to sell their product. Many will
even give you a "free web site" to sell their product from. For
more information go to: http://www.associateprograms.com/
Your Own Product
Coming up with your own product(s) to sell on the web is a much
more complicated endeavor. You need to buy or create one or more
products, create a web site, set up an order taking system,
collect people's money and ship product. One of the advantages
is that you will have much more control over how much you make
on each product.
The most important factor for success in any of these methods,
is in advertising and promoting your product, offer or program.
You will need to do this every day in some form or another. For
this reason, you need to focus on a small number of programs.
Expect that your income will build slowly over time. I have yet
to find any real "get rich quick" programs.
For me, creating and promoting my own products, About-the-web.com
and Activity & Expense Tracker, have provided me with more joy
and success than all the other methods combined. Whatever you
decide to do, remember to have fun with it!

Great Sites:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Before getting involved with any online program, particularly
Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) programs, it is a good idea to check
out one or more of the following sites.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Tips & Tricks:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If you're looking for something to sell on the Internet, an
ideal product may be an electronic book on any subject that is
near and dear to your heart. Think for a minute. Is there
something you know about, that other people would pay you to
learn about? E-books are easy to write, produce, sell and
deliver on the Internet.
There's a great book on the subject called "Make Your Knowledge
Sell" by Ken Envoy. Ken also has two other great books out
"Make Your Site Sell" and "Make Your Words Sell". If you're
contemplating making money on the Internet, I highly recommend
all three of these books.
Ken also has one of the very best affiliate programs on the
planet. It's called the 5 Pillar Program, and is very
educational, inspiring and lucrative as well. You can get more
information about all of this at

Shameless Self-Promotion:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
>>> Web Site Development, Production and Management
In addition to creating and updating about-the-web.com, I also
work on other people's web sites. So if you have one that you
need some help with, or would like help setting one up, email me
at garth@about-the-web.com and
I'll give you an estimate of time
and expenses.
>>> Activity & Expense Tracker
I've spent a lot of time, again, improving my shareware program.
This productivity software allows self-employed professionals, or
small businesses, to keep track of time and expenses spent on any
number of projects. Writers, programmers or any consultant can
easily record the amount of time they spend on specific
activities and make notes on tasks and expenses. They can then
quickly generate invoices and reports that can be printed or
exported to word processing or spreadsheet programs.
Users can try out the software free for 30 days, before
registering it for only $35. Activity & Expense Tracker runs on
most computers including, Windows 95/98/2000/NT, Macintosh and
many UNIX operating systems.
